Designer Profile
Sori Yanagi, born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1915, was the son of Soetsu Yanagi, a prominent advocate of "Mingei (Japanese Folk Art)," which emphasized the inherent beauty of common, daily items. After pursuing studies in art and architecture at Tokyo Art School, Sori Yanagi developed a deeper passion for design and objects. His career spanned designing furniture, three-wheeled vehicles, Olympic cauldrons, and pedestrian overpasses. He achieved notable recognition for his water kettles, iconic Butterfly Chairs, and his porcelain and silverware collections. Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd, situated in Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, produces the majority of Sori Yanagi's acclaimed kitchenware and tableware designs.
